Nyoka Jameson is a mixed media artist based in Bakersfield, California. Her work spans painting, fiber, and sculpture, often combining materials that carry contrasting cultural and gendered associations, including watercolor, ink, crochet, welding, and found or industrial elements. Through these material juxtapositions, her practice explores themes of femininity, power, intimacy, and contemporary social and political issues.
Nyoka’s work frequently draws from mythology, pop culture, and everyday objects, using both softness and structure to question systems of value, visibility, and control. Whether depicting goddess-inspired figures, unconventional love stories, or politically charged sculptural forms, her work centers tenderness as a site of resistance and resilience.
She earned her BA in Studio Art from California State University, Bakersfield, and her MFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Nyoka is currently an Adjunct Art Professor at Bakersfield College, Taft College, and Madera College, where she teaches studio art and art history.
