The State of Things
This body of work combines fiber arts, acrylic painting, and found objects to comment on the current social and political climate in the United States. Through painting, crochet, beading, and sculptural elements, I address the rising cost of living, economic inequality, and the abuses of power endured by everyday people.
Works such as Greater by the Dozen, All American Rations, and Great Value Soup use familiar food imagery to expose the absurdity of political rhetoric surrounding affordability and survival in an era of inflation. In Chinga La Migra, traditionally soft and decorative materials are repurposed to deliver a direct critique of state violence and immigration enforcement. By using domestic and “passive” materials to confront systemic harm, this work reclaims craft as a form of protest and resistance.
