Hard Systems, Soft Bodies

This body of work combines welded metal and crocheted fiber to explore the tension between strength and softness, and the gendered labor historically attached to each. Welding—often associated with industry, rigidity, and masculinity—is paired with crochet, a craft rooted in care, patience, and femininity, creating forms that are both resilient and vulnerable.

By allowing soft materials to spill, stretch, or resist rigid metal structures, the work reflects how bodies, identities, and communities exist within systems not designed to hold them. These material contrasts become a visual language for examining power, care, and resistance within contemporary social and political landscapes.
